Salmon Trail and Two Outdoor Enthusiasts
Two passionate outdoor enthusiasts and running colleagues share their experiences along this scenic trail. The untouched forests, clear watercourses, and sunsets. Through their narrative, you get an insight into how the Salmon Trail becomes a vibrant stage for adventure and harmony. Here are answers to three questions we asked Håkan Abramsson and Matilda Edvardsson:
Question: Which specific scenic places along the Salmon Trail in Blekinge have left the strongest impression on you during your running sessions, and how do you think these places would inspire other outdoor enthusiasts to visit the area?
Håkan: It's a challenge to describe when the entire stretch is marked by diverse beauty, with running through steep terrain in the north and flat paths winding between the river and fields/meadows in the south. A particular highlight awaits at the bridge over the river, near Danstorp, and at the barbecue area south of E22 on the eastern side of the river. These places are definitely worth a visit.
Matilda: : The variation, ranging from bridges and barbecue spots to gravel roads, tangled paths, and water obstacles. Especially running alongside Mörrumsån with the water murmuring beside you is unbeatable. I believe this inspires others as it's an excellent opportunity to experience nature while being active and getting lots of fresh, delightful air
Question: How has your running experience along the Salmon Trail in Blekinge contributed to a deeper connection to nature, and what do you think is the most unique aspect of this wilderness trail that makes it so appealing to runners and adventurous visitors?
Håkan: Exploring the enchanting diversity along the Salmon Trail, where running takes you through steep terrain in the north and flat paths between the river and fields/meadows in the south. Particularly memorable are the bridge over the river at Danstorp and the barbecue area south of E22 on the eastern side of the river—places that truly deserve a stop. Put on your sturdy running shoes and pack your backpack with energy gels and other treats for an unforgettable jog along the Svängsta-Elleholm stretch—an experience that must be lived to be understood.
Matilda: The scents, views, and sounds. The scent of the forest, the sound of birdsong, rustling leaves when the wind picks up, and both trickling and rushing water. The views vary from dense forests and open green areas to watercourses, with occasional glimpses of houses and eye-catching plots sloping towards the river. The most unique aspect is the variation, both in terrain, nature, and views. There's always something to look at, listen to, or smell, making you forget that you're running. For me, this is mindfulness at its highest level
Question: For those who have not yet experienced the beauty around the Salmon Trail, which moments or natural phenomena along the trail would you describe as the most memorable, and why do you think these experiences are worth exploring for anyone who shares your interest in outdoor activities?
Håkan: Running the unique Salmon Trail, with its varied terrains and scenic views, can create a lifelong passion for trail running. Especially in mid-May, when the beech forest blooms, and running becomes a journey through tunnels of delicate greenery, the experience reaches its peak. Nothing compares to the magical moment when the sun shines down through the foliage, giving the light a shade of green impossible to describe on any color scale. The Salmon Trail offers an outstanding running experience that melds with the changing beauty of nature
Matilda: The changes in nature. It's equally delightful to run there in spring as in autumn, summer as in winter. There's always something new to discover
