Biking in Listerlandet

In western Blekinge, south of Sölvesborg, lies Listerlandet, a diverse area with coast, sea, beautiful beech forests, cultivated fields and cultural landscapes. Through all these different environments, there is a bicycle route that is in short and well known as the Cycled Listerlandet. The trail extends from Sölvesborg, through Mjällby out to Hanö Bay, down towards Hörvik, Nogersund, Hällevik and back to Sölvesborg. The path is about 45 kilometres long and goes along small country roads, past small farms and rapeseed fields, through small residential areas, out on dirt roads with several detours to the coast and the sea.

If you visit Sölvesborg, you will be met by a small, cosy town with a lot of history and medieval roots. Here are small winding streets, a castle ruin and a medieval church, the church of Saint Nicolai from the 13th century.

Listerlandet Cycle Route is excellent because it is easily accessible and varied. If you choose to experience nature and the landscape from a bike, you will certainly not be disappointed. Just as with, for example, the Salmon Trail, along the Mörrum River, you can also choose which parts or parts you want to cycle. If you feel used and have a lovely bike saddle, you can catch the whole distance in one day. But the most experience you get if you choose a shorter length with a few detours, baths and ice cream. In summer, you can rent a bike in Sölvesborg. If you come from the east, you can also rent a bicycle from, eg. Pensionat Järnavik is one of the centres in the network of trails Ark56. Here are beautiful sea views and a towering lighthouse. If you are lucky, you can see birds of prey floating around, high, high in the air. When you have clearly enjoyed the sea air and the smell of the sea, you cycle back a short distance, before departing for Torsö and on towards Istaby. If you haven't had enough of sandy beaches, there are more in Torsö Bay. Istaby and neighbouring Stiby are small communities with large, rolling rapeseed fields and open views. Here you cycle along the country road all the way to Hällevik and Nogersund. Hällevik is an old fishing village, and here you will find smokehouses, beaches, camping, a small café and harbour bar. From Nogersund you can also take the archipelago boat out to Hanö if you now want to make a more prosperous departure. Otherwise, you can continue north on small country roads, either towards Hörvik or west towards Mjällby, and you will soon be back in Sölvesborg. End your day trip with something well-deserved to eat at one of the small figs or restaurants. Good work! Hope you had a beautiful day?

No matter what distance you choose or how much time you want to spend on cycling, you will have a varied nature experience with opportunities for swimming, beaches, forest, paths, rapeseed fields and much more. Several different nature reserves are well worth a visit. Cycling is a friendly activity where you can actually cover a larger area than, for example, hiking. Just remember to look over your bike so that the brakes work, that your bike has reflectors, comfortable saddle and air in the tires. If you park your bike during a break, please bring a bicycle lock. Sunglasses and sunscreen will make your trip more enjoyable. The helmet on the head is a matter of course, and on the back, you can easily carry a small backpack. Pack your cup of coffee, water bottle and swimwear. Most types of bikes work, you don't have to have a mountain bike or racer bike. If you choose a detour along a smaller path, you can always park your bike and get a little back and forth on foot.

Bike carefully!
