Laxaleden – along the Mörrum River Valley
Follow in the footsteps of emigrants Karl-Oskar and Kristina along Laxaleden Trail, one of Sweden’s most fascinating cultural hikes. With over 100 information boards, the trail tells stories of salmon fishing, mills, cholera outbreaks and the rise of the railway.
Be prepared – parts of the trail are steep, rocky and almost like climbing. But your reward? Swinging suspension bridges over the rushing Mörrum River – an adventure that feels like something out of Indiana Jones.
Hidden histories along the trail
- Cholera & resilience – tales from the 1800s remind us how pandemics shaped lives long before our time.
- Tulseboda Spa Town – a once glamorous retreat, designed by the founder of Skansen, where Sweden’s elite came to “drink the waters”.
- Education & reform – pioneers like Sven Rosenberg fought for sobriety and schooling, changing the future of ordinary people.
- The railway era – built through rocks and forests, it transformed Blekinge forever.
Why hike here?
Because few places let you walk straight into a story – a mix of wilderness, history and the kind of silence that makes you listen deeper.
