The Naval Museum (Marinmuseum)

Welcome to The Naval Museum - Sweden's national museum for the history of the Swedish navy from 1522 to today!

Beskrivning

The Naval Museum's exhibitions are about Swedish naval defense for 500 years, the world heritage naval city of Karlskrona, shipbuilding, the last decade of the Cold War, ship models, life on board and much more. Here you can explore on your own, go on a tour or listen to a lecture.

See and share the 110-year Swedish submarine history through the fleet's very first submarine Hajen and board the submarine HMS Neptun, which was active during the Cold War. Experience the beautiful Figurehead Hall, which displays perhaps the world's finest collection of figureheads. The several meter high wooden sculptures once sat in the bows of Swedish warships.

Several museum ships are moored at the quay outside the Naval Museum – the full-rigger Jarramas, the minesweeper Bremön and the robotic boat Västervik. During high season, it is possible to board the ships. At the sloop and barge shed opposite are the "barks", small boats, which have been racing since the 1860s and still do today.

Combine the museum visit with good food and award-winning ice cream at Bistro Skeppsgossen, where both inside the restaurant and on the outside terrace you have a nice view of the museum ships and the island Stumholmen's historic surroundings.

The museum shop has everything from home furnishings, accessories and toys to nautical, military history and fiction for both young and old. As part of an environmentally certified authority, the store has sustainable products of good quality.

Experience the museum with drama, sound effects and unexpected stories with the The Naval Museum's app. There is free Wi-Fi at the museum.

No cash accepted from 1st December 2022.
