Legendary oak tree just outside the center of Sölvesborg,
Beskrivning
A very old oak tree where, according to legend, people used to hang snapphans during the 17th century when Sweden and Denmark were at war. The areas of NÖ Skåne and NW Blekinge were full of snapphans who fought against the Swedes. There are many legends about the tree and how it got its name. One of them tells that Johan Gyllenstierna, Governor-General of Skåne, Halland and Blekinge, was going to have 20 snapphans executed by hanging from the tree. There was no executioner to carry out the hanging, so one of the snapphans offered to do the job in exchange for his life being spared. Gyllenstierna agreed, which led to 19 snapphans being hung from the oak tree, and one went free.
