The Blekinge Trail takes you through the heart of Blekinge, where you have the opportunity to encounter both history and outstanding nature. Each stage offers unique views, from the sparkling waters of the coast to deep forests and flowering meadows.
Nature
The stage starts at the station in Sölvesborg and leads you out of the city and up towards Ryssberget. On forest roads and rocky paths you walk through deciduous forest, past views of Listerlandet, and towards Ryssbergsstugan. Clapper walls with rounded stones at the side of the path show where the Baltic Ice Lake had its shoreline, 12,000 years ago.
Ryssberget is a horst that rises 150 meters above sea level. On the ridge, Skåne and Blekinge counties meet and here is also Blekinge's largest beech forest. On forest roads through spruce plantations, the hike continues upwards. Closer to Grundsjön, the nature changes character and slopes with species-rich beech forest line the trail. Some areas are classified as key biotopes.
Cultural history
This stage of the Skåneleden is one of the oldest and was completed in the fall of 1978. Look east and keep an eye out for Gammalstorp church. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was located on an island in Lake Vesan. There was previously a 12th-century church on the island and even further back, a pagan cult site. The associated village was located on the mainland. Vespan was lowered to make way for arable land.
