Hiking Along the Coast
- and Rocky Archipelagos
You don't have to go far from Denmark to experience completely different coastal landscapes than you're used to. Southern Swedish coastal hikes are something special. Here, you can experience everything from sandy beaches to dramatic cliffs and archipelagos, while seagulls cry and the scent of saltwater reaches your nostrils.
In northwest Skåne, just on the other side of the Öresund, you'll find wonderful coastal landscapes that are completely different from the Danish ones. Already at Kullen, which can even be seen from North Zealand, it's a good idea to hike along the cliffs that dramatically stretch out into the sea. Also, try visiting Hovs Hallar a bit further north, where Hallandsåsen meets the sea, and dramatic volcanic cliffs provide insight into geological changes that occurred millions of years ago.
Prins Bertils Stig in Halland offers a fantastic coastal hike. Along the 18-kilometer stretch from the 400-year-old castle in Halmstad to Möllegård, you'll experience sandy beaches, cliffs, and coastal forests.
In the southeast of Blekinge, several hiking trails showcase the archipelago in the most beautiful way, even without wearing out your boots. Svalemålaleden, for example, is only 6 km long, despite its undeniable beauty. Many consider this route, with its varied landscape, mighty beech forests, and the idyllic village of Gyön, to be among the most beautiful in Blekinge.
Scenic coastal hikes can also be experienced in Småland, which offers a wide selection of hiking trails along the east coast. For example, Ostkustleden presents a 160 km round trip north of Oskarshamn, where the archipelago and other coastal landscapes showcase themselves beautifully.
If you want to venture out into the sea, Öland also offers fantastic coastal walks. Take, for example, the short six-kilometer route at Homrevet, where pine forest and soft sandy beach characterize this northern part of the island.
