Karlskrona Garrison Spring Concert 2025

Spring is a time filled with renewal and emerging life, and nothing marks this transition from winter to warmer times as well as the spring concerts with the Swedish Royal Navy Band, 7 May 7 pm in Admiralty Church.

Beskrivning

This year's spring concert is a musical celebration of the beauty of nature. We will hear a mixture of romantic, lyrical and lively works that reflect both the peace and drama of nature.

Alexander Hanson - Conductor
Maria Forsström - Mezzo-soprano

We begin with Gioacchino Rossini's exuberant overture to the opera “The Thieving Magpie”, where the music takes us along on the antics of the thieving magpie. Tonight's soloist, mezzo-soprano Maria Forsström, performs Gustav Mahler's beautiful “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen”. In this song cycle, a young wanderer tells of his longing and sorrow, with nature and the changing seasons reflecting his feelings.
George Butterworth's lyrical “The Banks of Green Willow” depicts the quiet flow of the river and the green nature with beautiful melodies. We end the concerts with Hugo Alfvén, who gives us a joyful and exuberant interpretation of Swedish nature in “Vallflickans dans”, where the young girls dance in a flowering meadow.

From the program:
Gioacchino Rossini - Overture to The Thieving Magpie
Gustav Mahler - Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen
George Butterworth - The Banks of Green Willow
Hugo Alfvén - The Dance of the Poppy Girl
