Exhibition - Nobel laureate and model builder
Summer exhibition about Harry Martinson and Karl Albin Strömberg at Karlshamn Museum.
BeskrivningIn this year's summer exhibition at Karlshamns Museum, Karl Albin Strömberg's historic boats and ships are highlighted and the positive impact the author Harry Martinson had on Strömberg's development as a model boat builder. Their deep friendship and knowledge of ocean craft was of paramount importance to the models Strömbergs built. Martinsson ordered ship after ship from the shipbuilder in Karlshamn and soon he had a whole "shipping company".
Several of these ships ended up, at the initiative of Harry Martinson and Karl Albin Strömberg, at Karlshamns Museum where they can be viewed today. All models have a historical background. Jämshög's folk museum was also enriched with ships from Harry Martinson that were built or renovated by Karl Albin Strömberg. Some of these ships have been kindly lent to this summer exhibition 2022.
The exhibition wants to tell about Strömberg's skill as a model boat builder and how Harry Martinson inspired him to become one of Sweden's foremost in this art form. A meeting in the summer of 1952 on Gyön in the Blekinge archipelago developed into a close friendship between them that lasted until 1978 when the author died. These bonds of friendship began seventy years ago and with the help of pictures, letters and dedications we get to experience how the friendship deepens. The exhibition also wants to show a selection of Harry Martinson's painting that is unknown to many.
The exhibition runs between May 8 and October 1.
