Address: Slottsallén, 294 31 Sölvesborg

The ruined castle of Sölvesborg located northeast of the city centre, right at the Sölvesborg bay.

The castle used to have a tower 30 metres high, with a diameter of 17 metres. Excavations have showed that the castle was once surrounded by double moats. For a long time, this castle was the home of the country governor, reigning over all of Blekinge. In 1564, however, the castle burnt to the ground and lost its military importance forever.

Today, the park with the castle ruins and the cultural houses "Slottslängorna" constitute a pleasant destination for a picnic. The "Slottslängorna" are used for markets and theatre performances. The houses have the largest reed roofs in all of Europe.
