What is it that actually leads to war? Is it individual leaders, ideologies or something deeper in how states perceive each other?
Beskrivning
The war in Ukraine dominates the news. But when did it actually start? Was it only with the full-scale invasion in February 2022, or were there earlier events that laid the groundwork? And why does Russia see Ukraine's rapprochement with the West as an existential threat? In this lecture, organized in collaboration with the Friends of the Naval Museum, Commander Christian Allerman provides a deeper understanding of the ideas, events and geopolitical perspectives that often fall in the shadow of the war headlines.
How has the Russian view of the West been shaped throughout history, and how does it still influence the country's foreign policy? What does NATO membership mean for Sweden's future role in this geopolitical game? And what is really at stake?
With a background in submarine hunting, staff work and several years of service as a naval attaché in Moscow, Allerman provides a unique insight into the security policy landscape and how it affects us, both in Sweden and in Europe as a whole.
Welcome to a lecture that puts the war in Ukraine in a larger context.
